AN ANTIQUES dealer from Pontypool has spoken of his “excitement” after scooping a contract to supply props for a Hollywood studio production.

Roofrack Ragamuffins, based Commercial Street, has supplied antiques and collectables to TV shows such as Eastenders, theme parks and global fashion brands in the past.

Over the weekend, owner Allun Davies signed a contract with Warner Brothers to supply vintage items to upcoming American-British biographical drama film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

The film is due to be released in the US in December 2017 and focuses on the 15-year period from the formation of band Queen up to their 1985 Live Aid show - six years before singer Freddie Mercury’s tragic death.

Ex-paramedic, Mr Davies, started the antique business in 2014 and has quickly built a national reputation as a go-to-guy for rare collectible items.

Despite previous work for large TV projects, he said working on the Warner Brothers production is “probably the biggest contract we have had”.

“It’s quite exciting but we have done so many other projects it feels like the norm.

“We work really hard to promote our business into the public eye and we’re getting the results that we we’re hoping for.

“I think more than anything else it’s the personal site that makes us get the repeat business”.

Mr Davies will travel to Devon and Cornwall over the next three days to speak to dealers and try to locate around 10 specific vintage suitcases for use in the production.

He added that he was proud to be part of the project, especially being from a “little old town in Pontypool”.

“We like to think we provide a customer service that others don’t and we will find these things for you,” he added.

“It’s the only way to do business these days. It’s the personal touch. You have to go above and beyond”.

Community group, Friends of Pontypool Town, also congratulated the trader in a statement posted on Facebook.

It said: “Looking for a good reason to visit #pontypool?

“A local trader Roofrack Ragamuffins has just secured a deal to supply props for this amazing movie that’s currently being planned and filmed at Warner Brothers studios.

“Quality traders, friendly people and a town striving to put a smile on peoples faces. Well done Allun”.

The production will be directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men) with a script penned by Oscar-nominated Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything).

Freddie Mercury will be played by US actor, Rami Malek who is known for TV show Mr Robot with Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor serving as producers.
