MORE THAN half a million people will be reached in a social media campaign to promote a documentary about a 100-year-old Newport war veteran.

The documentary about Auschwitz survivor Ron Jones, who is still selling poppies at the Tesco store in Cardiff Road, has been five years in the making and lets Ron tell his story in his own words.

With the aim of giving the documentary as much exposure as possible, a Thunderclap page has been created.

So far, the page has gained 98 supporters and, when adding up all their followers, the message will reach 303,014 people when it is shared on Saturday, November 11, at noon.

Roger Hiscott, who set up the Thunderclap page, said more people have said they will share the link to the documentary without signing up in Thunderclap – bringing the number of people reached to half a million people.

He said: “It is a number we never dreamed of.

“It is about gaining momentum – what we are hoping is to get it trending and get as much exposure as possible when the documentary is launched.”

The film will be launched at midday on November 11 to watch or download online with at least £1 from every download going to the Poppy Appeal.
