A NEW group has exciting plans for the upstairs area of the Newport market.
The Gallery Space is hoping to run events ranging from film nights to gigs.
David Daniel, of The Escape Rooms, said they had the idea after having a screening of the Alien movie in there in Hallowe’en night, with food and drink provided by brewery Tiny Rebel and Sicily to Seattle, who has a stall in the market.
He said visitors to the event included the Deputy Council leader Mark Whitcutt and Cllr Jane Mudd.
Mr Daniel added: “We had some great feedback and lots of people were asking us what we were going to show next.
“We put it to a public vote and we’re happy to say that we’ll be showing Christmas classic Die Hard on Wednesday, December 6.
“We’re not just about film nights though, we think the market’s gallery space has potential for some really different and exciting events. It’s such a unique space, with a great history.
“Our aim is to offer something new and exciting for Newport’s nightlife and entertainment mix – watch this space!”
Mr Daniel said they also hope to help with the regeneration of the city centre, not just the market.
“It is about supporting independent businesses,” he added.
He said funds raised through tickets sales will be put back into funding future events by the team at the gallery space, of which they say they have “plenty” planned.
Tickets for the screening of Die Hard are priced at £4 and are available from buytickets.at/thegalleryspace/127110
