HERE are some of the winning pictures of the Newport Photomarathon held at the end of last month.

On Saturday, October 28, around 150 photographers came to the city to show off their snapping skills. Today, we can reveal the winning pictures of six categories – the rest will be revealed at a future exhibition in the Riverfront.

Organiser Fez Miah said they had 12 categories in total, together with four age categories.

He said: “The photomarathon was a success – everybody has praised it, which is always a good sign.

“We will have it again next year on October 27, but it may change slightly because I have had some new ideas.”

Mr Miah said that all the pictures entered in the photomarathon will be exhibited in Holbrook Studio, 80 Chepstow Road, for a week from today [SAT]. The exhibition will be open from noon to 5pm.

“The winners’ exhibition will be at the Riverfront Arts Centre before Christmas, but we don’t have a date confirmed,” Mr Miah added. “On display will be all 12 topic winners and the four age bracket winners.

“There will also be a mystery prize for ‘brought the most smiles’ which the judges felt should be shared.”

Rachel Hughes, who took part in the photomarathon, said the event “unleashed” her creativity whilst seeing Newport through a different lens.

Participant Loren Morris said: “It is great to see so many people of different ages and backgrounds take part.”

The main funders of the photo marathon are The Camera Centre, in Charles Street, and Maindee Unlimited.

Others sponsors include Newport Transport, Coleg Gwent, Holbrook Studio, Newport Live, Minute Man Press and Hortons Coffee House. All the winners will be receiving a camera accessory pack from the Camera Centre.
