MORE THAN 330,000 people reached in a social media campaign to promote a documentary about a 100-year-old Newport war veteran.

The documentary about Auschwitz survivor Ron Jones, who is still selling poppies at the Tesco store in Cardiff Road, has been five years in the making and lets Ron tell his story in his own words.

To give the documentary as much exposure as possible, a Thunderclap page – which synchronises social media posts on a certain topic – was created, gaining 143 supporters.

As a result, the message reached 336,695 people – the total number of all of their followers combined – when it was shared on Saturday, at noon.

Documentary producer and director Francis Jones said: “The Thunderclap was really good, it was brilliant.

“It all went ahead and the documentary is now online.”

He said they won’t know how many people have downloaded the documentary for a few days.

The film can now be watched or downloaded online. To download it costs £2.50, with at least £1 from every download going to the Poppy Appeal.
