MORE than 400 people attended a vegan fair in the Newport market on Saturday.

Event organiser Karl Loveesey, of Sicily To Seattle, a street food company who also has a stall in the market, said they had many stalls – all of them offering vegan or cruelty free products.

“We had burgers, pizzas and cakes, for example, and everything was vegan,” he added.

Mr Loveesey said it is good to have events like this because vegans in Newport don’t have many options.

Emily Humphrey, from the Malpas area of Newport, was at the fair.

The 25-year-old said: “I was a vegetarian for 10 years, so turning vegan seemed the natural progression.

“I became vegan six months ago.

“I think this fairs allows to raise awareness about veganism while showing how good vegan food is.”

Ms Humphrey said she really enjoyed the fair, but that it would be good if there were more stalls.

Mr Loveesey also said that Sicily To Seattle will be closing its stall in the market next Friday, but that it will continue to offer street food on a mobile basis.

He didn’t want to give further information about the reasons behind the closure of the stall, less than a year after it opened.
