A FORMER member of Only Boys Aloud will perform at the Christmas light switch on at the Cwmbran Centre after winning a talent competition.

Scott Alexander, 25, from Penygarn, near Pontypool, will appear on stage at the event on Wednesday, November 15.

“I’m so excited to have been chosen to perform at this year’s Christmas lights switch on at Cwmbran Centre,” he said.

It’s always a fantastic event for the community and it really gets everyone in the Festive spirit, so I’m delighted to have the opportunity to be part of it this year.”

The classically trained singer was chosen to sing for Princess Anne at 14 and appeared as a member of Only Boys Aloud, which was a runner-up on the 2014 series of Britain’s Got Talent.

“It was a tough job picking the winner to have the honour of singing at the Cwmbran Christmas lights switch on. Scott’s strong voice stood out among the entries,” said independent judge Ben Black.

“The big crowd will be in for a treat on Wednesday evening.”

Rikki Teml, centre manager at Cwmbran Centre, added: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the standard of talent in our local community and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who entered the competition.

“We’re so glad to be able to offer an act from the local area the chance to perform in front of thousands, and we’re sure Scott will do a fantastic job on the night.”
