A SPECIAL service was held on Sunday to remember seven men who were killed when a plane crashed in Gwent during World War II.

The Air Gunner of the aircraft was Sergeant Reginald Brown serving with the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

His family took part in wreath laying ceremonies and brought traditional Flax crosses to lay during the commemorations.

On December 9, 1940 seven men were killed when returning from a bombing raid over France when flight T2520, part of 115 squadron, when it flew into bad weather and crashed into the rocky outcrop of Cefn Yr Ystrad above Trefil in Blaenau Gwent.

The crew comprised of three airmen from England, one from Ireland, one from Australia and one from New Zealand.

His relative Leonie Wilson from Timaru in New Zealand attended the ceremony with her son Fraser and daughter in law Myra.
