DIGITAL professionals went back to school for a national day aimed at getting young people interested in working in their industry.

Digital Day, which is run by UK digital trade body the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA), involved people who work in the digital profession going into 140 schools around the UK to share their experiences of working in the digital world.

One of those schools was St Julian’s School in Newport where Ben Hayward and Emily Harris from web design agency and online marketing agency Spindogs came to talk to pupils about their work.

The school signed up to take part in the day and as part of the experience pupils were tasked with completing a number of challenges under the guidance of digital professionals which were set by The Diana Award, with the final one based around wearable technology and the fashion of the future.

Craig Patalano, digital competence champion at St Julian’s School said: “We are incredibly excited and proud that St Julian’s took part in BIMA’S Digital Day as we know the positive and transformative impact digital skills can make on our students’ choices for the future.

“The digital sector is growing rapidly and we want our students to develop the skills necessary to thrive and build future careers.

“One key aspect of the day was to challenge students to use a variety of problem solving techniques to develop a digital solution.

“Digital Day will give students, from a variety of backgrounds, the opportunities to work on two strands of the Digital Competency Framework which are producing and collaboration.

“Spindogs helped students build relationships and develop a range of skills. These skills will then be used across the school and throughout the curriculum having a real day to day impact on all our student’s learning.”
