ICONIC band the Manic Street Preachers have announced details of their 13th studio album.

Entitled 'Resistance Is Futile' - the album marks the their first new recordings in four years and will be released on April 6, 2018.

A statement by the band, who grew up in Blackwood, said the album is "obsessively melodic' and explores themes such as "memory and loss; forgotten history; confused reality and art as a hiding place and inspiration".

The album was recorded in the band's new Door to the River studio near Newport.

The band statement added: "After delay and difficulties getting started, the record has come together really quickly over the last few months through a surge of creativity and some old school hard work.”

To coincide with the album release, the band have announced a UK tour with support from special guests The Coral.

Welsh dates include Llandudno at the Venue Cymru Arena on May 1 and at at Cardiff Motorpoint Arena on May 5.

Tickets go on sale at 8.30am on Friday, November 24 and early access tickets are available for those who pre-order 'Resistance is Futile'
