Commercial vehicle dealer David Spear has secured a £750,000 contract to supply a fleet of new vans to one of the UK’s leading transport and warehousing company.

The contract has already seen the delivery of 50 Renault Trafic Panel Vans to the firm’s two depots in Newport and Droitwich.

The stock delivered to Newport will soon be working out of Owens Group’s new Avonmouth site in Bristol. The group also has further plans to open five more new sites during 2018.

Director David Spear, of the firm which is headquartered in Tredegar, said: “We are delighted to secure this deal with one of the UK’s leading transport and warehousing group. It signifies the way our business has changed over the last few years. The market for commercial vehicles is highly competitive but our ability to source and distribute new and nearly new vehicles to fleet buyers all over the UK at the right price and within tight deadlines was critical in the Owens’ case."

David Spear is renowned for its service and quality, and the delivery of this contract reflected just that.

Andy Williams, group fleet manager at Owens Group, was David Spear Commercial Vehicles’ main contact for this particular deal.

He said: “With an original brief to source between 20 and 30 second-hand, medium sized vans with low mileage, we at first found our search a little difficult. We visited several local dealers all of which struggled to source the quantity and quality of vans we were looking for within the delivery window. That is until we came across David Spear Commercials.”

Owens Group has been delivering across the UK since 1972. It currently delivers up to 30,000 parcels per week, and is projected to deliver up to 130,000 a week in the run up to Christmas. Despite the company’s success, size and £60m turnover, Owens Group still remains very much a family business, much like the story behind reputable dealership David Spear. As a result, each site has an Owens family member present.
