CHILDREN, care workers, and ambulance service and other health care staff have given festive makeovers to drab grey zimmer frames.

The decorated walking aids brought colour and fun to an event with a serious message at Pontypool's Active Living Centre.

The Dec My Zimmer event brought together health and care staff to discuss work to reduce the amount of falls among older people, and a campaign to abolish grey as the standard colour for zimmer frames.

People with dementia are more susceptible to falls, and have difficulty picking out the colour grey, meaning they can end up not using their frames.

A campaign across care homes has focused on personalising zimmers to get away from the grey look, and manufacturers are being lobbied to offer other colours.

Dec My Zimmer also featured talks on dementia and falls, and an address by Sarah Rochira, Older People's Commissioner for Wales.
