WITH Christmas round the corner, residents on a Risca street are angry that they are are still without post six months after deliveries were suspended.

The Argus reported back in June that some residents on Holly Road have had post deliveries stopped and that they would have to collect it five miles away from Abercarn Delivery Office.

The Royal Mail previously said post had been stopped due to “crime in the area”.

Resident Chester Chaffey said he was "frustrated" at not having post because "Christmas is approaching".

"I still cannot believe we do not have post," said Mr Chaffey. "It is now six months and nothing has happened.

"The council has had months to sort this out but nothing has been done.

"Christmas will soon be here and I have not even had any Christmas cards, let alone presents."

The 72-year-old added: "I wish it could be sorted as quickly as possible."

Angela Jenkins spoke of her concern for her elderly father not receiving any post.

She said:"My dad has lived on Holly Road for more than 10 years and he loved living here. But that has now changed.

"He has not had post for six months and he is too frail to go and get the post from the delivery office. My father has never broken the law so why should his post be cancelled?

"I think it is disgusting that people have been left in this situation. This is supposed to be the season of happiness but the people on Holly Road are upset and angry."

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "I am angry that we still do not have post.

"There was a public meeting a while ago to come up with ideas and nothing has happened.

"I feel as if we have been forgotten."

A Caerphilly County Borough Council spokesman said: “We are aware that this ongoing issue has been an inconvenience for local residents, but we have been working hard to agree a way forward and we will be updating those affected in the coming days.”

Spokeswoman for the Royal Mail Sally Hopkins added: “Royal Mail is continuing to work closely with the council on finding a suitable solution for all parties.”
