A NEWPORT woman has cut more than 35cm of her hair for charity.

Sophie Butcher, a nursery assistant at Lullabyz Nursery, in Tregare Street, Newport, has donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, who provide real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24 who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

The 25-year-old, who had around 37cm of her hair cut earlier this week in the nursery, said it all started when she went into the charity’s website and read they needed donations of hair of 30cm or more.

She said: “A haircut was long overdue anyway, but I don’t like having it done.

“I know a couple of people who have donated their hair to The Little Princess Trust and when I saw it on their website it pushed me to do it.”

Ms Butcher said she is still getting used to it as she has not had her hair this short for a very long time.

“My husband had never seen me with short hair,” she said. “It has probably been 10 years since I have had it this short.”

Ms Butcher said she has raised more than £600 for the charity so far and that money is still coming in.
