Newport City Summit, which takes place on Thursday (January 18), is set to be the biggest yet after the 300 places were all snapped up.

Business and community leaders will gather at the Celtic Manor Resort where the wider consultation of the city centre masterplan will be launched.

They will then hear from speakers including David Buttress, executive chairman of rugby’s Dragons; Ian Edwards, chief executive of the Celtic Manor Resort and International Convention Centre Wales; Dr Wyn Meredith, director of the Compound Semiconductor Centre; Damon Rands, managing director of leading cyber security company Wolfberry; Clare Johnson, head of cyber security at the University of South Wales; and Will Godfrey, chief executive of Newport City Council.

Newport City Council leader Cllr Debbie Wilcox, who will open and close the summit, said: “This fifth city summit promises to be the best yet and once again we can look forward to hearing from some of those involved in exciting projects for our city.

“Newport is proving to be a great place to invest and do business. I’m sure that those attending the summit will be infected with the positive vibe that is now buzzing about the city and will want to help us continue to build success.

“The continued revitalisation of the city centre is still very much a vital part of our ambitions for the city and we want people to contribute their views to the masterplan which will set out a vision for the next phases of regeneration in the heart of Newport.”
