JAMES Chapron’s Dragons Premiership Select completed a disappointing British and Irish Cup campaign as London Scottish came back from 15 points down to clinch a 27-22 victory at a rain-soaked Bedwas.

The home side were awarded a penalty within the first 10 seconds after London Scottish held on after the tackle.

Angus O’Brien kicked to the corner and a powerful maul from the lineout set up a good attack for Sam Beard to break through a tackle to score under the posts.

A second try followed just a minute later when winger Jon Morris followed up a neat chip through by O’Brien to score in the corner.

The visitors got themselves back in it with their forwards remaining patient to give Ben Mosses a platform to weave his way under the posts.

The London Scottish forwards were penalised for diving over the top of a ruck and O’Brien again opted to kick to the corner. From the lineout a powerful drive by the Dragons resulted in a try for Scott Matthews.

The Dragons extended their lead to 15 points on the half hour mark with an O’Brien penalty goal after the Scottish forwards killed the ball.

On the stroke of half time a close-range lineout for the visitors set up an attack and winger Joe Luca Smith squeezed over for a try in the corner.

After the interval the conditions began to tell as both sides made a number of errors during a scrappy period of the game.

A missed tackle by O’Brien let replacement Basil Strang in for a soft try, bringing the exiles back to within a single score.

The huge advantage up front soon told as the Scottish pack rumbled to the line with Dragons unable to prevent a try for Dan George. Basil Strang kicked his side into the lead with a successful conversion from out wide.

The replacement fly half kicked Scottish further ahead with a penalty after the Dragons’ defence stepped offside in midfield.

Replacement Max Berry came within inches of grabbing a dramatic late try for the Dragons in the corner, but it was not to be as he was crowded out into touch.
