DRAGONS supporters would be forgiven for wanting a challenging season to be over but promising fly-half Arwel Robson is excited by the opportunities provided by the Guinness PRO14 run-in after being hindered by injury misfortune.

The Rodney Parade region have four chances left to improve their league record of just two wins and a pair of draws with tomorrow's Newport finale against the Cheetahs (kick-off 7.35pm) followed by an Italian double-header versus Benetton and Zebre then the Judgement Day clash with the Scarlets.

Bernard Jackman's side cannot improve on their lowly position that sees just the Southern Kings sitting beneath them in Conference B but the players are not lacking motivation.

The majority of those that take to the field in the run-in will still be on the books when the squad returns from their summer break, meaning that positions on next year's depth chart can be altered.

Robson will get a chance to shine in the absence of the injured Gavin Henson and the 21-year-old is desperate to impress ahead of the arrival of Bath fly-half Josh Lewis.

He has featured eight times this season but plans for the prospect to be given plenty of game time have been hit by injury.

"It's been a tricky season because I came back from the World Rugby U20 Championship and had a hip operation and was out for three months," said the playmaker from Penallta, who made his debut at Leicester in November, 2016.

"I came back, had a few games and then picked up and ankle ligament injury (against the Scarlets in January). It's been frustrating but I am really looking forward to the Cheetahs.

"I haven't really had a run of games so there are four left to get under my belt, touch wood, to take into next season.

"My goal this season was to get a few games and take my opportunities. I try to be a voice and when you are in training you have to make an impression.

"Bernard has given me a few opportunities and it's up to me to take them now. It can be hard being a 10 because you have to be a leader on the pitch, mistakes are going to happen but Bernard has told me that it's important that I keep talking and don't go quiet."

Robson has proved to be a livewire fly-half when playing for Newport RFC in the Principality Premiership, although his Rodney Parade outings at professional level haven't quite allowed him to play with freedom.

"Every time I've played it's been terrible conditions, so it's been hard!" he said. "I'd like to say that I'm a running threat but against the Ospreys and Enisei-STM it's was raining heavily and snowing.

"Hopefully the weather is dry against the Cheetahs. I am a loud character so hopefully I can give good communication around me and take the ball to the line."

The Dragons are attempting to win for the first time in the PRO14 since beating the Kings in September and Robson wants to provide some cheer for the supporters after a challenging and frustrating campaign.

"Hopefully we can go out with a bang and give the fans something to shout about because it's been an up and down season," he said.

Jackman names his team at midday with the Wales trio of Cory Hill, Elliot Dee and Hallam Amos set to feature.
