TOP eateries across Gwent have been announced as finalists in the fourth annual Food Awards Wales 2018.

The awards aim to recognise and reward the best of the Welsh food industry from those who produce the ingredients to those who serve them, including restaurants, takeaways, hotels, cafés and bistros amongst others.

Making it to the final in the Best Mexican Establishment category are Newport’s Los Amigos and Monmouth’s Mokos Mexican Restaurant.

Gemelli restaurant in Newport has been shortlisted for Best Italian Establishment, while in the Best World Cuisine Caerleon’s Curros restaurant is on the list.

Sen BBQ in Newport is among the list of Best Mediterranean Establishments, while in caterer of the year Spicer’s Meat Wagon (Newport), Owen Catering (Cwmbran) and Sugarloaf Catering (Blaenavon) are named. Clarkes restaurant at the Glen Yr Afon House Hotel in Usk and The Whitebrook in Monmouth are among the list of Fine Dining restaurants.

Newport’s Little Steak Hut, run by Mark Fredrickson, is on the list of Best Street Food, as is That Fish Guy Ltd (Torfaen) and Ava’s Lunch Box (Newport).

Zorba Delicacies Ltd in Ebbw Vale is recognised in Welsh Produce of the Year category, while Madeleine’s in Monmouth is up for Retail Bakery of the Year.

Luca Wholesale Ltd and Euro Foods Group Ltd, both in Newport, make the list for Wholesaler of the Year. Thirty awards will be presented at the Food Awards Wales 2018 ceremony on April 23. For the full list of finalists, including more from Gwent, visit bit.ly/2qfDere.
