TWO dogs that were found living in “appalling conditions” by RSPCA inspectors in January have been brought back to health thanks to the charity.

A Husky named Bella and a German Shepherd dog named Pepsi were found at a property at Nantybwch, Tredegar in an extremely thin condition with bones visible .

RSPCA inspector Izzi Hignell said: “The two dogs were kept in a little dark outbuilding with no ventilation, no bedding or food. The floor was totally wet and there was a tiny amount of water in a bowl - they were appalling conditions.

"To think that cold, dark and wet place was where the two dogs spent their time is very upsetting. The two dogs were also visibly thin and in a skeletal condition, you could clearly see their bones through their fur.”

The dogs were taken into RSPCA care and were given immediate veterinary treatment.

Inspector Hignell added: “They are both really sweet dogs and have really made great improvements in our care. They have now put on weight really well and are now under the care of staff at RSPCA Newport Animal Centre.

“I’m delighted to hear that Pepsi has found her forever home, although Bella is looking for her perfect match at the centre. She is such a lovely dog, I’m sure it won’t be long before she is home and being given the love and care she deserves.”

Following a successful prosecution, a man and a woman have been banned from keeping dogs for two years after pleading guilty to two offences, that they caused unnecessary suffering by failing to address the cause of their poor bodily condition and did not provide the two dogs with a suitable environment.

The man and the woman were also ordered to pay £510 each, which included a fine and costs.

If you are interested in rehoming Bella please contact RSPCA Newport Animal Centre on 0300 123 0744.

Bella is three years old and needs an experienced owner who will be able to give her plenty of exercise.
