GWENT Police were called to reports of a man in possession of an "offensive weapon" on Monday.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "At approximately 3.45pm on Monday, we received a call from a man reporting he had been threatened by three men in a car in St Stephen’s Street, Newport.

"It is alleged that one of the men was in possession of an offensive weapon, which was described as being either a pole or a firearm.

"Officers conducted an area search and located the vehicle and the occupants however no weapons were found."

The spokeswoman said enquiries are ongoing.
