RAIL services were cancelled after a person was hit by a train between Cwmbran and Abergavenny.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said: “BTP officers attended the line south of Abergavenny railway station, in the Penpergwy area, after a report that a man had been struck by a train.
“Officers from BTP and Gwent Police attended the incident, which was reported to police at 6.07pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Paramedics from the local ambulance service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The 5:16pm train from Cardiff Central to Holyhead was terminated at Abergavenny after being involved in the incident.
Arriva Trains Wales said that once able, the service would proceed forward to Abergavenny station where it will terminate.
The company reported that all lines were blocked between Cwmbran and Abergavenny and that train services running through these stations may be cancelled.
All lines have reopened and train services running between Newport and Hereford may be cancelled, delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised.
Disruption is expected until 9pm this evening.
