NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn says his side needs to be 100 per cent better to avoid a hammering at the hands of champions-elect Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

Flynn was angered by “an awful performance” from his players with “no fight” as they were beaten 2-0 at relegation-threatened Barnet on Saturday.

County failed to produce a shot on target against the Bees, who won the match thanks to goals from Shaquile Coulthirst and Ricardo Santos.

And Flynn warned that a similar display on Tuesday will be severely punished by a rampant Stanley, who need just a point to be crowned League Two champions.

“They’ve got to get up for it. It’s as simple as [that]. If they’re not [up for it] it’ll probably be eight or nine,” said the Exiles boss.

“There has to be a reaction. Everything needs to change. I can’t take anything out of that game.

“They owe the fans of this football club a performance on Tuesday because that was not good enough – nowhere near good enough.”

Aaron Collins and Ben Tozer were withdrawn at half-time at The Hive and Scot Bennett was forced off with a foot injury.

But, after such a poor team display, they might not be the only one to miss out against Accrington.

“There will be a changes. I could change 11. It was terrible,” said the manager.

“I’m really upset with that performance and I’m angry.

“I’m trying to keep my head because if I said exactly what I thought I’d probably get a ban for swearing.

“It was dreadful. That was the worst we’ve played since I’ve been here.

“There was no fight and we didn’t create anything. I can’t stomach that performance. It’s something that I will not put up with.

“We prepared as usual and all the detail we work on we didn’t do anything.

“We didn’t do anything at all and if I was Barnet I would have tried to score more goals instead of timewasting because they could have put seven days up [instead of seven minutes added on] and we still wouldn’t have scored.

“It was unbelievable,” he added. “We had players passing balls out of play and the passes to each other, when they did do them, were poor.

“It was dreadful. There are absolutely no positives.”

South Wales Argus:

Barnet showed much more desire to secure a vital victory in their battle to beat the drop.

Martin Allen’s men are now four points from safety with two games to play – against 22nd-placed Morecambe and basement boys Chesterfield.

And Flynn believes the Bees can pull off a Great Escape of their own over the next two weeks.

“They’ve got a chance if they play to their strengths,” he said.

“Martin has been in this situation before and he’s somebody I’ve got a lot of time for. I hope he does what he’s done previously and keeps Barnet up because he’s a top bloke.”
