A WOMAN has spoken of her concern after an anonymous note accusing her of being a convicted fraudster was sent to her parents in a bizarre case of mistaken identity.

Zena Price, from Pandy near Abergavenny, works as an art teacher in Pontypool, but, as the Argus reported, earlier this month a woman by the same name, from Pontypool, was jailed for 15 months after she admitted stealing £32,000 from Abergavenny Garden Centre.

Ms Price, whose middle name is Jane, said: “The first I knew of the case was when my boyfriend’s dad asked about it. I looked it up online and I saw the Argus article and it was a bit surprising to see someone with the same name but I didn’t think anything of it.

“But then on Tuesday April 10 my parents received an envelope through the post.”

It contained a clipping of the story with ‘I see you have brought up this’ written on it in ballpoint pen.

“It has my father’s initial on the address so that means it is someone who knows the family,” Ms Price added.

“My dad is in his early 80s and my mum is in her late 60s. They were shocked."

Ms Price called the situation "unnerving".

"It’s the fact that somebody knows where we live that concerns me because you don’t know how far something like this could escalate," she added.

"It is a harmful and spiteful and they have aimed it at the wrong people.

“I have had nothing to do with the garden centre, I know nothing about the other Zena Price. We may share a name but we are very different people.”

Ms Price also said she was worried about the issue raising its head again in future, particularly given hers is not a common name.

She said: “It may affect me in my work, it may affect me where I live because I live in a small village and I don’t want people to have the wrong opinion of myself and my parents.

“I am an artist and I am a little worried people might not want to buy a piece from me thinking I am this other woman."

She said she wanted to put the record straight.

“I would like to have my name cleared,” she said.

“I would like people to understand that although we share a name, I am not that person and nothing like that person or am responsible for what she has done. I would also like whomever wrote this to do the right thing and send an apology.

“Everybody who knows me knows that I wouldn’t do such a thing and they know it’s not me.

"I just want to make it public knowledge that Zena Jane Price is not the Zena Price who committed this crime.”
