THE biggest annual carnival in Gwent will hit the streets of Pill on August Bank Holiday Monday and the search is on for a parade queen.

The Pill carnival queen competition will be held on Sunday, May 20, at Pill Harriers Club, Courtybella Terrace, between 2pm and 5pm.

Entrants between the age of 5-16 years, from anywhere in Newport, are welcome to compete for the roles of carnival queen, five flower girls and four court ladies.

Prizes include £50 cash for the queen and £25 for the runner up. All will receive a goodie bag on the day of the carnival plus all dresses will be provided.

Pill's carnival is a highlight of the summer calender and is due to take place on Monday, August 27th.

The parade traditionally starts on Alexandra Road and then continues into Commercial Road before heading to Cardiff Road and finishing in Mendalgief Road.

After the parade celebrations continue on the fields by the Pill Mill centre, where there is live music and DJs, a fun fair, food from all over the world, bouncy castles, dancing, face painting and lots more.

Organisers are now calling on anyone wishing to run a float, walking entrants, jazz bands, cheer leaders and food vendors to make an application now.

Entry forms and details for both the carnival queen competition and carnival day can be found at A.B Florist on 01633 259249.
