Gwent Police have said a male passenger has been taken to hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.

A spokeswoman said: "Emergency services received reports of a serious road traffic collision at around 2.30am this morning, Wednesday, April 25 April 2018.

"The collision happened on Caerleon Road in Newport and involved a White Volkswagon Golf, a White Skoda Fabia and a parked black Ford Focus.

"The male passenger of the White Skoda Fabia has been taken to hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.

"The 21-year-old male driver of the Skoda has been arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence or insurance and is currently in police custody.

"Following the collision, the male driver and a female passenger of the White Volkswagon Golf ran away from the scene in the direction of the Old Barn Estate.

"Officers are investigating the circumstances of this incident and are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision to contact them by calling 101 quoting log 425 25/4/18.

"Caerleon Road is currently closed from Junction 25 to the Old Barn Estate junction and motorists are asked to avoid the area."

TWO people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving three vehicles in the early hours of this morning.

Welsh Ambulance was called at around 2.30am to the crash in Caerleon Road, Newport and sent a rapid response vehicle and two ambulances.

Two people were taken to Royal Gwent Hospital.

One man has been taken to hospital with potentially life threatening injuries.

But the road remains closed, with police in attendance.
