RECORD breaking Team Wales athletes and competitors were welcomed home officially from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games tonight.

The team - which earned a record haul of medals - gathered at the Assembly building in Cardiff Bay.

More than 200 competitors flew the flag for Wales Down Under earlier this month, bringing back 36 medals, comprising 10 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze.

Among them were Gwent competitors Mike Wixey (Abergavenny - gold in the men's trap shooting), Lauren Price (Bargoed - gold in the women's 75kg boxing), Jon Mould (Newport - silver in the men's cycling road race), Lewis Oliva (Devauden - silver in the men's keirin cycling), Rosie Eccles (Chepstow - silver in the women's 69kg boxing), and Sarah Wixey (Abergavenny - bronze in the women's trap shooting).

Family, friends and supporters of the team gathered to congratulate team members on their efforts.
