POLICE are appealing for a witness to come forward after a 17-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery near Pontnewydd in Cwmbran.

The suspect, from Cwmbran, remains in police custody.

During the attempted robbery, which happened near the canal at around 2pm yesterday (May 14), Gwent Police say two unknown men approached the victim and threatened her whilst demanding money.

Fortunately, the men were disturbed by a dog walker and ran away, leaving the victim without serious injuries.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: "Officers are now keen to seek the identity of the dog walker, as they believe he might hold vital information to assist with their ongoing enquiries.

"He has been described as white, 6ft tall, of a medium build and wearing a t-shirt and jogging bottoms.

"The dogwalker's dogs are described as a black Labrador and a white/golden coloured Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

"Specialist officers are supporting the victim who is understandably shaken from the incident.
