A NEWPORT park was awash with colour as hundreds of runners tied up their laces for a popular powder paint charity run.

St David’s Hospice Care’s Kolor Dash returned to Tredegar Park today and saw more than 350 people sign up to take part.

People wore white and were covered in the paint as they made their way around the 5k route.

Children and adults of all ages took part.

Among them was Bethan Rostron, from Caerleon, who attended with a group of friends.

She said: “We have had a great time, and it’s for a great cause.

“It’s pretty hot but we did it and had good fun.”

Daniel Llewelyn-Williams, from Newport, also took part.

He said: “I am here with my wife and family and have had a lovely day.

“My daughter Enfys did a lap and my son Caiwyn did three laps.

“It’s great for the hospice and I think things like this are really good for Newport.

“We will definitely do it again next year.

“It is an amazing event and I want to thank the organisers for putting on.”

Sponsored by Western Power Distribution, with paint stations supported by Sytner Mini and Capsel, people mingled with family, friends and supporters while DJ James Berrow kept spirits high.

There was also music from The Dhol Foundation, whose members travelled from Birmingham and London.

There was also entertainment from Mari Anne Hart, Peter ‘Pork Chop’ Pork and Cliff Collings.

Gemma Sandhu, who organised the event for St David’s Hospice Care, said: “It’s fab and the most colourful event of the year.

“It is one of my favourite events.

“It’s such unbounded fun for everyone who are given free rein to get as messy and as paint covered as they possibly can in the truly awesome venue, Tredegar Park.

“I must mention the tireless work of our St David’s Hospice Care volunteers, Chepstow Round Table, Caerleon Air Cadets, Newport Social Cycling led by John Wheat and Xercise4Less, who were absolutely marvellous and helped make this one of the best Kolor Dash days we have ever had.”

Karen Welch, from Western Power Distribution, said: “The Kolor Dash is such a wonderfully fun event which we’re more than happy to support.

“As long term supporters of St David’s Hospice Care we are keen to do as much as we can to help support the charity which does such brilliant work throughout the community.”

The next large St David’s Hospice Care event will also be held in Tredegar Park, on Saturday August 18, when the inaugural Portstock Music Festival will be staged.
