POLICE are appealing for information after two men on bikes tried to rob another man walking along a canal.

The male victim was walking along the canal in the Five Locks area of Cwmbran at around 12pm yesterday (Monday, May 21) when he was approached from behind by two people, both described as male and in their late teens.

Police say both suspects were on bikes and one of the offenders was wearing a grey hooded top and the other a black hooded top.

As they reached the victim, they hit him to the head and he fell to the floor. They attempted to take his mobile phone and wallet but he was able to push them off before they ran off in the direction of Cwmbran.

Detective Sergeant Nathan Sparkes said, ‘Thankfully the victim was not hurt but was shaken by the incident.

"We are investigating this and are appealing for information from anyone who saw this incident or who may know who these offenders are.

"Officers will be patrolling the canal area and if anyone feels concerned, please do speak to them or if you see anyone acting suspiciously, you can call 101 or dial 999 in an emergency."
