NOMINATIONS are coming in for the Argus’ Gwent’s Best Dad competition.

Lauren Hewitt and her sister Kirstie nominated their dad, Steve Hewitt, who regularly goes out of his way to help others.

The 54-year-old, from Cwmbran, is always there for his family.

In her entry, Lauren Hewitt said: “He’s definitely my hero and I honestly couldn’t ask for a better dad.

“Everything this man does is for everyone else.

“He made my childhood fun and loving his girls are the apple of his eye.

“In the last year I’ve moved into my own home which he spent all his spare time renovating.

“He would go to work all day or night then come straight to my house and crack on and the house is perfect.

“He even spent his own hard earned money helping me to make it so amazing.

“My sister is currently pregnant and just moved into her home too.

“He’s been painting for her, running around getting her furniture not to mention taking her for lunch now she’s on maternity leave.

“He’s going to be an unbelievable grandfather soon.”

Ms Hewitt said her father not only helps his children, but that he also looks out for her grandfather.

She added: “My dad is constantly there for him too, moving his stuff, fixing things for him having him for dinner every week and taking him out for food.

“I’ve even come home in the past to my dad mowing the neighbour’s opposite lawn or unblocking the young couple next door’s drain.

“I’ve had a hard time with anxiety and he’s supported me so much. I’m so proud of him. Recently in Cwmbran there was a girl about to jump off a bridge, without hesitation he turned the car around and went and stood in the middle of the road to stop traffic while I was on the bridge taking to her.

“He stood there underneath and reasoned with her.

“I couldn’t have done that without seeing his face below me encouraging me to help her. He truly is an incredible man and deserves a treat for Father’s Day.”

Nominate your dad by Wednesday, June 6. To do so, email a photo of you and your dad, and up to 200 words on why he deserves to win, to newsdesk@southwalesargus.co.uk.
