A PAINTING will be unveiled to honour legendary Newport boxer David ‘Bomber’ Pearce.
Artist Pat Killian has produced the 6ft x 4ft painting which will be unveiled on Saturday, June 9, to coincide the the unveiling of a 6ft 2in bronze statue of the boxing hero.
The painting shows Mr Pearce holding up the Lonsdale Belt after winning the British heavyweight title and the boxer training in Newport's Belle Vue Park.
Money raised from copies of the painting will go to the fund set up in his memory which will go towards legacy projects.
Mr Killian, based in Newbridge, was commissioned for the painting by solicitor and fundraiser Andrew Collingbourne and the David Pearce Statue Committee.
He said: "I’m very pleased with how the piece is coming together.
"I think it captures the essence of the man. The hard graft running in Belle Vue Park and the ecstasy of winning that title can clearly be seen on his face."
