CROWDS of people spent Father’s Day at Big Pit in Blaenavon.

It was full stomachs and fun for all the family at the ‘Feastival’ event put on in partnership with Torfaen County Borough Council and Taste of Torfaen.

On offer was a range of locally sourced food, including pies and offies from Sprokwobbles, local honey from Mêl Honey, homemade sauces and chutneys from GUY Hottie, cheese from Blaenafon Cheddar Company, and more.

Tours took place of the underground mine, of Pithead Baths, and of Rhymney Brewery, complete with free ale.

Visitors were also entertained with live performances by Ragsy.

The Welsh singer - a contestant on talent show The Voice in 2013 - sang and played guitar.

The museum’s learning manager Sharon Ford said: “The undeground tour has been really busy, with people queuing up all day.

“Ragsy performed some sets and was really good.”

For children who didn’t want a tour there was still plenty to do.

Entertainment for the young ones included soft play, crafts, and face painting.

“It’s been good,” added Ms Ford.

“Even though the weather wasn’t perfect it hasn’t dampened anyone’s spirits.

“The partnership with Taste of Torfaen and the council worked really well and it’s been a positive day and we hope to hold similar events again.”
