CALDICOT’S residents are getting ready for a day filled with family fun this weekend when the town’s annual carnival returns.

Caldicot carnival will take place on Sunday (June 24) in and around the town’s castle.

This year, organisers are expecting nine brightly-decorated floats and seven walking groups to take part in the carnival parade, which assembles on the King George playing fields at 11am.

After judging has been concluded by the town’s mayor and deputy mayor, the parade will begin at 12pm and proceed along Jubilee Way and Church Road before arriving at Caldicot Castle.

Leading the procession will be the carnival’s king and queen, who will be announced in the morning, and a jazz band.

In the castle grounds, visitors will be entertained by four stage acts, including a performance by Caldicot Music Theatre Society.

Other local music performances include two bands and a singer.

Later in the day, a motorcycle club will be on hand to wow the crowd with a display.

Younger visitors will be able to enjoy going on a bouncy castle, an assault course and a funfair, and there will also be go-karts for the thrill-seekers to try out.

A wide range of stalls will be set up by local businesses and charities.

The festival will include a bar, burger vans, and a locally-made ice cream stand.

Organisers promise this year’s festival will be the best edition in recent years.

Entry is free and the carnival’s attractions will be open until 5pm.
