A MAN who died on Wednesday night when the car he was driving left the road has been named.
Gwent Police confirmed that Alexander John Merriman, 61, from London, died as a result of his injuries.
His family continue to be supported by specialist officers.
The accident involving an Audi Q5 happened between J24 (Coldra) and J23A (Magor services).
A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: "At approximately 5.10pm on Wednesday, June 20, we were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle on the M4 Eastbound carriageway, between junctions 24 and 23a.
"A blue Audi Q5 had left the road. The male driver of the car suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales. He later died from his injuries."
Investigations are ongoing into the incident. Any witnesses are asked to contact Gwent Police on 101, quoting log 365 20/6/18.
