All little girls want to be a princess and four Gwent girls have earned their crowns. All they needed was some faith, trust and pixie dust...

Enchanted Birthdays is a company that brings magic to children’s parties.

It was founded by 22-year-old Aimee Jones, who started out as a face painter dressing as Sleeping Beauty. Just two years later and the make-up artist runs a successful business where princesses ensure children have a magical birthday.

Also on the team are Morgan Rawbone, Sarah Morgan and Onyx Uwandulu, who play a variety of princesses. The only princesses missing from their collection are Mulan, Pocahontas and Merida.

All three on the team are trained singers, with Onyx - who plays princesses such as Tiana and Moana - a pageant queen.

Enchanted Birthdays offers packages, ranging from £25 to £140, for 15 minutes up to an hour.

They offer house visits and pamper parties for older children, which include make-up, nails and glitter tattoos.

The princesses will sing, tell stories, dance, play games, and even have a crowning ceremony for the birthday girl or boy.

Plus they give children the opportunity to make a birthday wish using Tinkerbell’s powerful pixie dust.

The most popular princesses vary, but Belle, Rapunzel and - of course - Elsa and Ana from Frozen get out the most.

Snow White, the original Disney princess, is less popular but the girls love sending her out when they get the chance.

Aimee said: “Snow White goes out once in a blue moon, but I’ve got a new Snow White dress and it’s so pretty.

“When we do events and are allowed to choose I’ll pick princesses that don’t go out much to help promote them.”

Ariel is one of the princesses they play, but in human form rather than mermaid.

“I thought about getting the fin, but I’d only do it for house visits,” explained Aimee.

“I know a lot of people have the walkable fin but I don’t want to ruin the magic”

Belle and Rapunzel went to celebrate a joint birthday party for 4-year-old Ffion and 3-year-old Olivia at Rougemont School.

Preparing is a serious business, involving putting on costumes, wigs and doing the make-up.

“It doesn’t take long to get ready now,” said Aimee. “My day job is a make-up artist, so it takes 15 minutes for me to do my make-up.

“How long it takes depends on the dress and wig. Rapunzel takes longer, because of the wig.

“If you’ve got a corset like Belle and you’re on your own it’s a nightmare, but most of them are really easy to get into, so it doesn’t take long.”

Aimee first hired Disney fanatic Morgan as they were friends in school who’d lost touch. Sarah and Onyx have been involved almost a year and the four have become genuine friends through ‘princessing’.

Once the characters are ready for action they have to drive to the venue and - when they arrive - try to avoid being spotted by children.

“It’s always awkward when you’re in traffic and pull up next to a car full of kids,” explained Aimee.“They get so excited seeing Cinderella and you’ll tell them you carriage broke down.

“About a year ago I broke down on my way to a party. I had to run down the lay-by dressed as Belle and had lorries beeping and shouting.

“The parents had to collect me, and I had to do the whole party knowing my car was broken, but just keep smiling.

“Every time something like that happens I tell myself I’ll keep spare clothes in my boot, but I still haven’t.”

How busy the princesses are varies, but some day’s they play four princesses in one day, which can get hectic.

Other issues the princesses face are with non-believers or children who ask a lot of questions. Aimee has produced a guide book for the team, with information on each character. It outlines their make-up, how to behave and difficult questions you might be asked.

“We have quite a lot of kids asking Elsa to use her powers to make it snow, but we just tell them: magic doesn’t work in this realm,” said Aimee.

“Kids used to ask lots of questions, but now having a princess party has kind of become the norm, so they don’t ask so much.

“But I like being asked questions, it’s nice.”

The girls explained how this job has become an obsession for them.

“It does take over my life,” said Aimee.

“All I do is just watch Disney blogs and we watch the parades from Disneyland.”

This addiction isn’t cheap. Although the princess industry is becoming more competitive, Enchanted Birthdays focuses on quality over quantity, ensuring their four staff members look the part.

The dresses cost them £300 onwards and the wigs are also expensive, with a styled Rapunzel wig costing over a whopping £500.

Although they’re more commonly booked for girls parties, they also do boys parties.

Aimee said: “It’s my favourite thing at a party when a boy comes over and he’s really shy like ‘Can I have a hug?’ and hug you because you’re real to them. I love that.”
