Pensioner comes home from the shops to find all his windows smashed

Paul Chamberlain, 69, Caerphilly county borough, left the house with his son, Scott, at around 11am on Thursday June 14.

But when they returned about an hour later, the pair were shocked to find every window on their two-floor house in Nantgarw Road had been smashed.

Mr Chamberlain told the Argus he isn’t sure who caused the damage, but he knows it must have been deliberate.

“It was the downstairs windows, the upstairs windows and the windows above my front door. They were all smashed through,” explained Mr Chamberlain.

“One brick was thrown with such force that it went through the front door window and smashed the window above another door inside the house.

“My son and I were only out of the house for about an hour, and we came back to find it all smashed to pieces.

“We phoned the police because we first thought it was a burglary. But it was just the windows, in broad daylight on a main road. I couldn’t believe it.

“Whoever did it must have waited until we were out I think, because we were only gone for an hour.

“My neighbour came round, and said he hadn’t seen or heard anything.

“We were all quite shocked really.

“You can see the bricks they used lying around, so we left them for the police to come and look at.

“But they didn’t turn up until the next day. I don’t know what to think really.”

“Two policemen eventually came around because we kicked up a fuss . We had left all the mess for them to examine, and we asked them to gather the evidence. They picked up one or two of the rocks and left. We didn’t see them take any fingerprints though.”

A spokesman for Gwent Police confirmed they were aware of the incident.

“We received a report that a window had been smashed on a property on Nantgarw Road in Caerphilly on Thursday 14th June at around 12.30pm,” said the spokesman.

“Officers are investigating and if anyone has information that could help their enquiries, please call 101 quoting log 248 14/6/18.”
