THREE people from a Newport cafe/bar took on three Welsh mountains in one day to help fundraise for charity.

Staff from Drago Lounge – based in Friars Walk – took on the Three Peaks of Wales charity event on June 23 to fundraise for St David’s Hospice.

The challenge, sponsored by Tiny Rebel, was to climb Mount Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-y-fan within one day.

The Drago Lounge team – Ellie Micklemore, 19, Lucas Hilliard, 24, and Jaime Roche, 20 – managed to climb all 2,845 metres in 10hr 20min.

Leader Miss Micklemore said: “It was brilliant seeing so many people coming together to support a good cause.

“It was a challenge, but everyone was in high spirits, and I think we surprised everyone with how well we did.”

In total, Drago Lounge has raised almost £900 for St David’s Hospice.

This is on top of £680 it raised ahead of the challenge, with help from team members Kayleigh Kehoe and Sean Wyness.

“We chose St David’s Hospice because it’s a charity that’s very close to the team’s hearts and they’re a great local charity,” explained Miss Micklemore.

“We thought it would be nice to put some focus on them and show Newport that we support this charity and they should as well.”

St David’s Hospice is hoping to raise £25,000 from the event overall.

Event manager at St David’s Hospice Franca Nigro said: “The Drago Lounge team did extremely well.

“They drove to Snowdon from 11pm, arriving at 3am, and managed to complete all three mountains.

“This is absolutely outstanding.

“They were against the clock the whole time and must have been exhausted when they finished.

“The money raised will help us continue providing our services within the community, such as hospice care for patients at home and in our inpatient unit in Blackett Avenue.”
