A NEW bar has opened its doors, much to the delight of real ale and beer lovers.
Alex Jones, who lives in Cwmbran, launched The Dog House bar in Caerleon on Friday night, and had a full house of customers eager to sample what was on offer.
“I am amazed,” said Mr Jones of his opening night. “It has totally blown me away how busy it has been.
“We haven’t counted how many people came in, but we had a lot.”
Mr Jones owns the Mad Dog Brewing Co, a company he first started in his kitchen. The Dog House has opened on the former Bolero’s Wine Bar site, in High Street.
“I’m from Cwmbran, the brewery is near Goytre and Caerleon is half way between the two,” added Mr Jones. “The community has been welcoming and supportive.
“We serve proper beer and have no mainstream products at the bar . What we serve is from craft breweries, even the soft drinks as we use a local independent company.”
He also said he has considerable plans for the future.
“We plan to open the kitchen in the next couple of months and we’ll do some really funky pizzas,” he said.
“Customers will be able to choose their toppings, build a pizza and we will bake it for them. We will do the same with burgers and hot dogs, and have vegetarian and vegan options.”
“We will have a few events like meet the brewer, and wine and cheese tasting evenings too.” See facebook.com/DogHouseCaerleon
