A CALDICOT woman, along with her boyfriend and two members of his family, have been jailed for attempting to hide a car bought with money made from drug dealing.

Shelbie Seccombe has been jailed for a year for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

The 27-year-old, along with her boyfriend Essac Ali, 30, his brother Nozmoul Ali, 35, and sister Fatiha Begum, 28, all of Cardiff, were charged with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. The charges came after Nozmoul Ali and his sister were convicted of conspiracy to supply class A drugs in 2016.

Cardiff Crown Court heard this week Seccombe and her boyfriend had been roped in to hiding an Alfa Romeo Nozomul Ali had bought in 2015. All four pleaded guilty in April.

Nozmoul Ali was jailed for a further two years and one month, while Begum was given 12 months as well as a further eight for breaching a suspended sentence. Essac Ali will be recalled to prison, where he will remain until April 2019, then to serve a further 15-month sentence.

Stuart Slyman, operational team leader of the Wales Asset Confiscation Enforcement Team, welcomed the convictions.

“Such was the strength of the evidence that all four defendants had no option but to plead guilty to the charge of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice," he said.

“The sentences handed down send of a clear message that, although you can try and hide your assets after a conviction and Proceeds of Crime Act confiscation order being made against you, the Regional Asset Recovery Team will pursue those assets relentlessly and seek to prosecute all those who help you to do so.

"And we will still confiscate those assets."
