A BOY will cut his Gareth Bale-style hair for charity this weekend, after growing it for two years.

Parents of eight-year-old Kelyn Jude-Hobbs are hosting a charity fun day tomorrow, where their son will have his hair cut for the Little Princess Trust.

He decided he wanted his hair cut around either weeks ago, but didn’t want it to just go in the bin.

The 12 inch long in a ponytail will soon match his shaved sides as the hair is cut and donated to the Little Princess Trust.

Donated hair will be made into wigs for children and young adults who have lost theirs through treatments and illness.

Kelyn’s dad, Mark Hobbs, said: “He decided about six weeks ago that he wanted it all cut off - in time for the world cup.

“But he wanted it done for charity so we persuaded him to keep it for a bit longer so there was actually a chance of him raising some money.

Kelyn has raised £1,018 so far.

“So we decided to also have a charity day in Cwmbran RFC. I’m a coach there and Kelyn plays in the football team. There’ll be a bouncy castle, barbeque and lots of stalls,” the 47-year-old added.

“He is a little bit overwhelmed at how much has been raised but really excited to have it cut and for the event.

“It is not going to be extravagant but it’s a good group of people trying to raise money for a fantastic charity.”

The event starts at 2pm with the haircut taking place at 3.30pm, so it doesn’t clash with the world cup.

The Llanyrafon Primary School year three pupil plays rugby for Cwmbran RFC and football for Cwmbran Town, and dreams of being a professional footballer.

“We are like a little family at the club. It is amazing how much everyone is willing to get involved and we hope we can raise some more money for the Little Princess Trust,” Mr Hobbs said.
