Employees at the Office for National Statistics in Newport are bringing their own reusable cups to work, as part of the organisation’s commitment to reduce their carbon footprint by 50 per cent by 2020.

Staff will now require reusable cups if they want to buy hot drinks from the onsite coffee shop.

ONS also recently removed all plastic cutlery from its canteen among other single use plastics, as part of its #UseLessPlastic campaign for June’s World Environment Day.

Andrea Morgan, ONS, said: “Staff have embraced the reasons for removing single use plastics. Removing single use cups will help reduce waste and our carbon footprint at the same time, meaning we are helping to reduce the detrimental impact of plastics on our environment and wildlife.”
