A POPULAR 152-year-old pub has re-opened its doors.

The Lamb, on Bridge Street in Newport, was opened under new management on Friday evening.

The building is still owned by Admiral Taverns and it will now be run by Shelley Byers and her husband Andy.

Mr Byers said: "It's a lovely pub, right in the city centre, and there's not a lot we want to change.

"We've already had people coming in, saying they missed going there for a nice quiet drink. Now it's about giving the pub some love and care to make it fully operational."

Changes are expected to be kept at a minimal, with afternoon tea still on offer, but plans are underway to update the menu.

Andy and Shelley Byers have lived in Newport for 17 years and also own The Neon venue, on Clarence Place, and Neon Bar and Lounge on Market Street.

"It's nice to bring places back, but right now rates are the biggest issue," added Mr Bryers.

"Nobody wants to have to close, but the rates are what is driving businesses out."

The Lamb is open from 6pm on Sunday and from 11.30am the rest of the week.
