THERE was music, dance and poetry on the banks of the river at the weekend.

The Caerleon Festival drew to a close on Sunday after a week of events in the town.

Organising committee chair Tim Davidson said: “The festival went extremely well. There was an excellent turnout to all the events, despite the competition from the World Cup and Wimbledon.

“The weather was big help, it was a great success.”

One of the main events was the Big Free, which took place on Saturday and Sunday at the Hanbury Quayside, the Bell Inn and the Festival Field.

Mr Davidson said: “I think it’s great we are able to provide free entertainment at the three locations from morning to night.

"There is a considerable amount of planning and commitment from volunteers to run the event and want to thank them for their hard work, they did a tremendous job."
