AN INTERACTIVE art exhibition has been launched.

A Thousand Voices is a Heritage Lottery funded oral history project that combines heritage with art.

150 pupils - from Eveswell Primary School, St Joseph’s RC Primary School and Maindee Primary School - gathered at Maindee Primary School on Thursday to showcase two years of work.

Sue Mizon led the project, with artist and project co-ordinator Marion Cheung-Webber.

Ms Cheung-Webber said: “We spoke to the children about heritage and did workshops, making creative responses which we, as artists, added an interactive element to.

“It was great to be part of this free training, which helped us bring stories to life.”

The children visited Community House, underwent various artistic workshops and - with help - created interactive boards which incorporated sound.

The artists were trained to do this, funded by the Arts and Education Network in South East Wales (AENSEW).

Victoria Jones, of AENSEW, said: “The aim is to increase the quality of delivery of art projects across the South East region, by training teachers, artists and cultural educators.

“We cover all art forms, enabling pupils to learn history in a fun and exciting way.

“It’s been a positive project and I’m really pleased.”
