A COUPLE have recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Jean and Jack Chambers were married in Newport’s St John Baptist Church in 1948, 70 years ago on July 10.

The couple spent 50 years living on Beechwood Avenue, but now reside in in Florence Justice Care Home following Jean undergoing surgery.

During the afternoon with them the children decorated cards while the adults drank a toast to their 70 happy years together, followed by afternoon tea.

This coincided with the celebrations of the NHS turning 70.

The couple have quite the family, with two children, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, most of whom visited to celebrate.

The couples’ daughter in law, Jackie Chambers, said: “The day went really well.

“They loved having the family together and the children enjoyed doing some arts and crafts. Plus, we had a little afternoon, and Jean was delighted to receive a letter from the Queen.

“We all live far away now, so it was nice to be able to thank the neighbours and people who have helped them over the years.”
