A PRIMARY school brought their community together for a special music festival.

Deighton Primary School in Tredegar staged their own festival last Friday and had performances from Kevin Davage, The Beaufort Male Voice Choir, Michael Parker and Trinity Leigh Cooper.

MP Nick Smith attended the event called #DFest and enjoyed performances from the pupils.

Head teacher Mike Gough said: “The festival was our way of trying to engage and enthuse our children and our school community and in making learning about real life contexts and making it relevant.

“The numbers who attended took our breath away and made all the hard work that the staff and children had put in, worthwhile."

The school also celebrated being a runner-up in the Education Business Awards at an awards ceremony that was held on July 5 in London.

Mr Gough said: "It was a great honour and nice to receive recognition of the hard work our whole school community has put in to changing the life chances of our learners at Deighton.”
