A NEW cafe celebrating Welsh rugby has opened in Pontypool.

Front Row Food is based at Pontnewynydd Industrial estate, and has been opened by local resident Johnathan Gibbs.

The 35-year-old from Abersychan decided to try his hand at self-employment and, with support from Torfaen Councils Communities for Work + programme, set up his own cafe.

Former Welsh rugby international player Iestyn Thomas attended the grand opening on Wednesday, July 18, alonside Torfaen Council’s executive member for Business, Tourism, Leisure and Culture Alan Jones.

Mr Gibbs said: “It’s been a long standing dream of mine to get this business up and running and I’m fully committed to looking to support local people and local business needs.

“I very much look forward to establishing a quality service here in Pontypool.

“Thank you to so many people who have helped me get to this point and I look forward to welcoming new customers in the coming months.”

Richard Murphy, of Torfaen council, said: “It’s been a pleasure to work with John and to see how his vision has come to life.

“He has worked so hard to get this venture going and the café looks great. Congratulations to all concerned on this great new business for Torfaen.”

Front Row Food offers all day breakfasts, sandwiches, lunch specials and homemade cakes.

The cafe is open 7.30am - 2.30pm on weekdays and 07.30am - 12.30pm on Saturdays.
