Summer has finally arrived, so that means the kids are off from school. If you are looking for something to do, we have a couple of ideas for you.

We have come up with something for everyone. It is sure to be enjoyable for all different types of ages.

From parks, to wildlife, to fun and interactive museums, the kids will be entertained for hours.

Tredegar Park, Newport

This is an excellent little park with a great playground. It’s the perfect opportunity for a picnic and the kids will be entertained for hours. The park is open from dawn to dusk all year round.

Big Pit, Blaenavon

To celebrate Big Pit’s 35th anniversary, you can experience the From Mine to Museum Exhibition taking place 1 September to 30 December 2018. Watch as it turns from a working coal mine to a fascinating museum.

Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths

Explore the history and remains of the Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths, up until 31 October, every day from 9.30am to 5pm. Last admission 30 minutes before closing.

Pontypool Museum (Kids go free!)

If you’re a gamer, then Generation Games Exhibition is the exhibition for you. On 28 October at 4pm, make your way through the history of computer games and learn how it changed the face of entertainment.

Beechwood Park, Newport

There will be a free fun day on August 19 from 1pm. You can sit outside Mrs Ts cafe while they enjoy story telling, circus skills, games and more.

Newport Wetlands

Newport Wetlands is ideal for kids and families during the summer, as you can have hours of fun with the Binocular and Telescope Weekend. Weekends this year until 16 December at 10am to 4pm you can take a closer look at the incredible creatures in the Wetlands.

Pontypool Park

Another fantastic park where kids can explore land and fresh air for hours upon hours. It’s perfect for those days where you have nothing do to. You can also look for painted rocks and share your finds on the Torfaen Rocks Facebook page. The park is open daily all year round. There will be a litter pick on August 4 hosted by the Pontypool Park Friends.

Newport Museum and Art Gallery

Newport Museum allows you to explore the history of Newport from prehistoric times to the 20th Century. There are family craft days during August and a circus story trail on August 17.

Pen- y- fan Pond, Caerphilly

Pen-y-fan Pond is a popular place for families to visit in the summer to kick a ball around and have picnics. Kids can join in on the Alien Invasion Trail around the pond and find out who has been visiting. The pond has all year access in daylight hours.

Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal

Why not travel through the beautiful Welsh countryside? There are so many activities to do at Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal such as looking at the local heritage, spot wildlife or even a little cycle around the canal.

Roman Museum, Caerleon

There’s plenty to do to keep you occupied at the Roman Museum this summer. Up until the end of August, you can chat to the Roman soldier in the Barrack Room about what life was like in the army and even try some archery.
