THE FULL details for a new family friendly festival were announced today.

This is the first year of Portstock Festival, which is sponsored by Kymin, Design Print and Western Power Distribution, and will host an exciting line-up on two stages, along with entertainment and stalls.

Portstock 2018 will be between 11.30am and 10pm on August 18, at Tredegar Park, and will raise funds and awareness for St David's Hospice Care.

Jazz swing singer, Russel Jones Jr, will kick off the Main Stage performances at 12pm, with headliners, Into The Ark, taking the stage at 7.45pm.

Other acts on the Main Stage include: The Ed Sheeran Encounter, Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band, Barracwda, The Apple Tree Theory, The Sisterhood, The Dhol Foundation, and Hula Hoop Troop.

Newport City Radio will also have a Love Live Community Music stage at Portstock 2018, with local talent including: Pork Chop of the Chop Tribe, Selena in the Chapel, Oxbowlake, LeClares Dancers, Lewis Leighton, Ian Lynn Palmer, Rhys Hone, Adem, Ruby Kelly, Brothers Blythe, and Big Ben.

The Love Live Community Music stage will also host a hula hoop workshop for children, by Sparkles Hoop Troupe, and a drum workshop, hosted by Barracwda.

St David’s Hospice Care Community and Events organiser for Newport and Monmouthshire, Gemma Sandhu, said: “We were looking at other events in Newport and noticed a gap in the market for a family friendly music festival.

“We know there are other festivals and music events targeted at specific audiences, so we wanted to do something that was totally family friendly. There’s certainly a lot of interest, with people thinking it’s a fantastic idea to have a local, affordable event for families.

“We’re really looking forward to the day, with the money going to running our hospice, which currently costs almost £8 million a year to run.”

Live acts are not the only entertainment on offer at the festival. Funfair rides will be provided by Danters funfair, and children will have plenty to do, with Louby Lou's story telling, games, workshops, pebble art, face painting, and festival glitter and hair.

Foodies will rejoice, as there will be several food, drink and craft stalls, organised by Cotyledon Market, ranging from Mexican food to crepes, and from candles to cheese.

A few stalls were arranged by St David's Hospice Care, including e Pizza Ria, pop-up bars by Vantage Point Events, Tiny Rebel, Parc Pantry – who named the festival – and Western Power.

People cannot park on site, but there will be park and ride sites at GCell, Imperial Park and John Frost School, plus shuttle buses to and from the city centre. Disabled parking is available, but limited, so should be booked in advance.

Security will be present, with bag searches in place, and the event prohibits guests from bringing in their own food, drink, or pets (excluding guide dogs).

Volunteers are still needed for the day, with roles ranging from car parking duties, ticket sales on the door, wristbands and more.

“There are a variety of jobs and roles on offer,” added Ms Sandhu.

“Any amount of time people are able to give to help is fantastic. We’re not expecting them to volunteer for the whole day.”

Anyone wishing to volunteer can email porstock@stdavidshospicecare.org or phone 01633 851051.

People can purchase tickets using Eventbrite - with 20 percent discount for those who use the promo code 'SCHOOLSOUT20' - or buy them at the door.

Tickets cost £22 for an adult, £14 for under 16s (although children 5 and under have free entry), or £55 for a family ticket which admits two adults and two children.

Those unable to spend the whole day at Portstock can join the festivities from 5pm, costing £10 at the door. This will allow them to sample the stalls, and see Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band, The Ed Sheeran Encounter and Into The Ark.
