GWENT bosses are being urged to get 'back to the shop floor' as part of a fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The event, being held throughout October, encourages employees to nominate their boss to take on their roles and responsibilities and do their job for the day - with sponsorship money going towards the cancer charity.

The official 'Back to the Shop Floor' day is October 12, but bosses can take part throughout the month.

One Gwent boss already signed up is Fran Hudd, Customer contact services Manager at the Prison Service's Shared Service Centre in Coedkernew, who will be joining his staff for a day answering the phones and dealing directly with customers.

"It's close to my heart, I know people who've been affected by cancer. At the organisation I used to be with, I was close to a team leader who passed away suddenly from cancer.

"I am really looking forward to it, so are my staff, they will take the mickey out of me for a few weeks," said Mr Hudd.

Mr Hudd is hoping to raise £500 for his day and the overall target for the UK is £250,000.

Penny Reeves, Regional Corporate Development Manager at Marie Curie said: "It's a great way for companies to do some team building to raise the profile of how people who come to the end of their life with cancer get the treatment they deserve."
